Cosmological magnetic fields and chiral effects in the early Universe

Prof. Kohei Kamada

Recent observations of TeV blazars suggest the existence of the intergalactic magnetic fields. They have increased the interests to use cosmological magnetic fields as the tool to "see" the primordial Universe. From this point of view, I have explored possible processes in the early Universe that involve magnetic fields. In particular, I have pointed out that chiral effects such as the chiral magnetic effect can play important roles. In this talk, I will explain that one of the mysteries of the early Universe, the baryon asymmetry of the Universe, can be explained by the helical hypermagnetic fields in the early Universe and show possible mechanism to generate them, such as the axion inflation and the chiral plasma instability. Their implication on the intergalactic magnetic fields and the gravitational wave back ground will be discussed.
